Metro Coffee & Wine
A Great Place To Sit And Sip
From the moment that you walk into Metro Coffee and Wine you can sense that it’s a little different than your average Sarasota coffee spot. There is a wide variety of seating, something for everyone. A nice big coffee bar, tables for two or four or a comfortable living room like chair wait for inside patrons. Outside there are tables to sit and sip coffee, wine or beer and watch the world go by on Osprey Avenue.

Metro serves a wide variety of shade grown, bird friendly and organic coffees from a variety of locations. They make it a point to support growers who are environmentally friendly. It nice to see a local business that cares as much about their suppliers as they do about making their own cash register ring.

Oh yeah, the coffee. Let’s see on my most recent trip I enjoyed a fantastic Café Latte. Served in a nice large mug this latte was nice and rich without being bitter. A conversation with owner Betsy Nelson was enlightening as to how the different types of bubbles within the mixture interact with each other. That’s what sets Metro apart; they know what’s going on inside the mug!

Aside from Café Latte their coffee menu includes, Espresso, Cappuccino, Café Mocha or Café Caramel and drip coffees. I didn’t have a chance to sample one, but I’m sure that they would make a killer hot cocoa ($2.00). My son the hot chocolate connoisseur will have to be our tester.

Metro also has a nice menu of panini and salads. Sandwiches are priced in the $5.00 to $9.00 range and salads go for the same amount. Every Monday night they feature a “Mom’s Meal” and that’s exactly what it is. A meal just like Mom used to make. Past choices have included, Ravioli, Ham Steak and of course everyone’s favorite Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes.

On some Friday and Saturday nights Metro features music. I had the opportunity to take in some great live music on a recent Friday night. The place was packed and the music and coffee were both hot. Check their web site for the schedule of who will be performing in the weeks to come.

Metro Coffee and Wine gets two thumbs up! Great atmosphere, fantastic coffees and a little unexplained something that makes Metro unique.

Metro Coffee & Wine is located at 711 S. Osprey Avenue in Sarasota, 941-365-1800. Plenty of parking is available on sight.
