Turning the lunch menu upside down isnt easy.
Its lunch. Just lunch. The middle meal of the day is probably, no, definitely, the most overlooked and under appreciated. Face it, breakfast gets more than its fair share of hype as the most important meal of the day Dinner, well, we all know the planning, prep and excesses that can sometime define our last daily meal.
Then there is lunch. Were busy at noontime, so sometimes the mid-day meal is on the run or less thoughtfully prepared or consumed than it should be. Were hungry, so we eat. Its typically less a social occasion and more of a matter of sustenance. Necessity.
But, down on Palm Avenue lunch is getting the respect it rightfully deserves. Dishes created with the enjoyment of dining in mind. Dishes that blend the best of new tastes with the comfort of old friends. Louies Modern is striving to get lunch right. And, succeeding.
Recently re-opened for lunch, Louies chef is pulling out all stops to bring lunchtime sophistication to downtown Sarasota. Take a look at what Im talking about.
A Garbanzo Quinoa Wrap. Yes, I know quinoa is everywhere (I think I may have seen a breakfast cereal). But, this beauty really delivers a unique and satisfying flavor profile. Light but filling.
The Margherita Pizzetta is great example of how a traditionally rustic and simple dish crosses the line into todays modern culinary environment.
The Vegan. Heres the rundown. Edamame hummus, dried tomato, avocado, pickled onion, Portobello, balsamic syrup on a multi grin roll. The ingredients in sandwiches like this sometimes have a tendency to get lost in the shuffle. Muddled. Not so here. In fact, just the opposite. You can taste each of the well considered elements. This is not your average lunchtime sandwich.
No we didnt forget dessert. Did someone say Root Beer Float. I thought I heard that. This throwback is includes Dads Original Root Beer and Reddi Whip. Pictured above is a mini version. The full size version would obviously be even better!
This a Menu Monday post so heres what you came for.
Making lunch into an occasion isnt the easiest task you could be assigned. Louies Modern has taken that challenge and delivered. It might not signal the return of the three martini lunch (can you say Mad Men). But, its a huge step above the typical mid-afternoon repast.

NOTES: There is a Short Rib Grilled Cheese Sandwich on the menu. The written description alone was enough to make me crave it. Didnt get a chance to try it though. Ill save that one for next time. Louies Modern provided us the opportunity to sample many of their new lunch menu items last week. Thought you should know.
