Nothing beats discovering a great dish!
What: Chicken Gyro
Where: Zante Gyros (6500 Superior Ave., Sarasota, 941-404-2099, Gulf Gate)
There aren’t many people (at least that I’ve run into) who don’t love a good gyro every now and then. Obviously, it can’t be the foundation of your food pyramid. But, we’re all entitled to the occasional indulgence. That can’t hurt, right?
Over in Gulf Gate, a new place has popped up that can help you take care of that craving. Zante Gyros. Yes, they have gyros. And, lots more. These transplanted Illinoisans really have hit the mark with their menu of reasonably priced, great tasting fare. There are a tons of these types of places all over northern Illinois. And, they are super popular.
I didn’t want to go whole hog on my visit, so, I opted for the Chicken Gyro. It turned out to be an excellent selection. Take a peek.
This sandwich is loaded with tons of perfectly seasoned, tender, grilled chicken pieces. Add some onions, tomatoes and tzatziki sauce. Nestle all of this in a warm grilled pita. Home run!
Have no fear. They also feature the traditional lamb gyro. AND, the meat is sliced right off the roasted cone of lamb! No pre-cut lamb slices here. Just the real deal. For vegetarians they offer a meat free gyro. It’s loaded with all the usual goodies just sans meat. It’s a tasty take on the original. A gryo option for everyone.
