Quick Bites – Happy! Happy! Happy!
July has a ton of potential holiday celebrations just for you!
πΌHappy 4th, Bonne Fete Nationale + Happy Canada Day! When it comes to holiday celebrations, it is never too early to start planning. June is winding down, which means July will be hot on its heels. There will be at least three BIG national holidays next month.

Of course, our annual celebration of all things American and red, white, and blue happens on the fourth. Three days before that, our neighbors to the north will celebrate Canada Day. And on July 14th, the French will celebrate the 236th anniversary of the storming of the Bastille. That’s a whole lot of national pride on display in just one month!
Of all three of those holidays, I think you can safely say that Bastille Day will have the best food. Now, hold on. I love a grilled burger or hot dog as much as the next guy (maybe more!). And I do love a bowl of poutine. But the French basically invented gastronomy. So in this particular case, they get the nod.
So, this sets up a nice little celebratory food run if you’re up to the culinary challenge.

π Canada Day (July 1st) – A big helping of poutine would be in order here. 1592 Wood Fired Kitchen & Cocktails (1592 Main St. | 941- 365-2234) is the perfect place for you to check that Canada Day poutine box. The owners are from Montreal, so this is going to be as legit a bowl as you will find in the area. π I would absolutely LOVE if they would add a delicious Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich to that menu. I will even beg if need be. Talking to you, Eddie! π

π Independence Day aka The 4th of July! – This one is easy! I’m guessing you have friends. I’m thinking that at least one of these friends will own a BBQ. And lastly, I’m hoping you’re on the backyard barbeque invite list!
If this scenario doesn’t pan out, DO NOT panic. Selby Gardens (1534 Mound St. | 941- 787-3532) is sponsoring an All-American Cookout. There will be 4th food, the Selby, and of course, fireworks! HERE’S A LINK FOR ALL THE DETAILS!

πΌ Bastille Day β This one is a bit trickier, considering France is 4,700 miles away, and it’s tough to drive, too π. There aren’t nearly as many French nationals calling Sarasota home as, say, Canadians. But do not fret. As you have probably figured out by now, I have a solution for your Bastille Day celebration “situation.”
For nearly ten years, Mademoiselle Paris has been showing off their national cuisine to enthusiastic Sarasota diners. First in LWR. Next, opening a downtown Sarasota location. Then, finally, in 2022, adding AMI to their roster of restaurants. That’s a whole lot of French food!
Now to the details… July 14th (Yes, that’s Bastille Day!) Mademoiselle Paris is tossing a Bastille Day bash at two of their locations. (LWR & AMI). They’ll be serving a four-course dinner (yes, you can get duck!). Of course, there will be wine. What would any self-respecting Bastille Day dinner be without wine!?
We’ve got your details β HERE’S THE MENU! & HERE’S A LINK FOR A RES!
Whether you’re celebrating one, two, or all of the July national holidays, we hope you do it safely and with style!
β¬οΈ Kona Down β Just toss another restaurant on the pile. Kona Grill out at UTC has rolled out the last Crab Crunch at their Sarasota area location. Yes, it’s a chain. And, yes, some of you applaud when those “big box” restaurants shutter. This closing trend seems to be affecting both large and small restaurants. It feels like it’s picking up steam as we get into summer, and frankly, it’s a little worrying… π₯ Let’s make sure that during the slower days of summer, we show our local places a little love.
πΊ I’ll Drink to That! I’m not giving you a lot of time to get it together for this one. As a matter of fact, like, 24hrs! Tomorrow (JUN 21) is Zote Day! π I think this may be our local version of Oberon Day, so I’m good with it!
If you’re a lover of Calusa Zote, this is an event that you will not want to miss. If you do miss it, it you will be setting yourself up for a year of regret (nobody wants that!). There will be six Zote variations available (Coconut Zote, Imperial Zote, Zote Breeze, ManBerry Zote, Creamsicle Zote, and, of course, your standard everyday Zote!).
Things get started at 11AM with the beer release and runs right through 5PM when the winners of the Pirate Costume Contest are unveiled! π΄ββ οΈ – HERE ARE ALL OF THE DETAILS!
π£οΈ One Last Thing… We asked for your Savor Sarasota experiences. A bunch of you came through. This one from Millie caught our eye. She had a great experience at Amore…
“Last night was our first time at Amore, and all six of us loved our meals! We each chose from the Savor Sarasota menu with lots of variety on the table. Cod fritters, Caesar salad in a crispy Parmesan boat, salted cod, pork tenderloins, chicken Parmesan. All Delicious! The staff were super friendly and helpful, and they had a nice variety of inexpensive wines. We certainly will return.”
Millie may have a future as a food writer! π Keep those reviews coming.
That is it! That’s all the Quick Bites we have for this month. Hope you’re filled up. Keep cool out there. Enjoy your July holiday dining (we’ll talk before then). Now get out there and support a local Sarasota restaurant! π΄
