The List – August 2025
We’ve got some HOT summer restaurants just for you!

🥵 Hot Fun in the Summertime. Well, we are in the thick of it. Yes, that FL summertime heat is bearing down.
The bad news, you can’t do anything outdoors after about 10AM and still feel even somewhat comfortable. The good news, almost 100% of our Sarasota area restaurants have good, working AC!
📆 Something to Celebrate!
🥪 August is National Sandwich Month! (Main Bar & Southside Deli)
🍺 August 7th – National IPA Day (Calusa & 99 Bottles)
🥩 August 13th – National Filet Mignon Day (Summer House & Connors)
🎉 August 15th – JULIA CHILD’S BDAY! (Have some Boeuf Bourguignon!)
🥘 August 18th – National Fajita Day (Kolucan & The Grasshopper)
🧇 August 24th – National Waffle Day (ANY Waffle House & The Breakfast House)
📝 On TUE AUG 19 (one day after Fajita Day. Kolucan is holding a Tamale Making Class! Learn the secrets to making a great tamale from a tamale-making pro. This is a “Hands-On” class, so you will be participating! OH, enjoy a delicious margarita to accompany your creation! – TICKET INFO HERE!

YES! We’ve added some new places (three to be exact) to our dineSarasota restaurant database. That brings us to a whopping 394 places you can investigate on our site. Dig in!

Pork Roll Pete’s (4657 Cortez Rd. W. | 941-896-3333) wins the award for the best restaurant name that we have added in some time. They should absolutely have a Pork Roll Pete mascot wandering the restaurant! 😃 Now go out and get some Pork Roll!
Alma de España (1830 S. Osprey Ave. | 941-365-8426) brings a touch of Spain to the crowded Southside Village culinary scene. This is the former Ka Papa space. Southside has fast become a dining destination. SO many cuisine styles are represented in this little five-block area. Go check it out!
Comida (1534 State St. | 941- 324-5985), now occupies the tiny Rise & Nye’s location on State Street. Their style is what they call “Elevated Latin American.” Don’t forget to save some belly space for the Churro Donut Holes. You can thank me later for that tip!
👋 Let’s Get to It! Even though it’s “summer slow” around town, we still have some notables for the month. Let’s have a look, shall we?…

August actually looks a whole lot like July. Samba hangs on to the top spot. The Athens Family Restaurant breaks into the Top Ten! (Congrats to them!) The Bean Coffeehouse on Siesta has been jumping in and out of our LIST for most of the past year. 📝 They have REALLY good house-made bialys at The Bean. If you didn’t know, now you do!

The Shebeen just won’t fade. They have been holding down a top ten spot for months on end. They opened back in 2022 and have been serving up traditional Irish food and brews ever since. They feature Irish music throughout the week. They even throw a “Halfway to St. Paddy’s Day” Party!
Three years ago, we did a FIRST LOOK piece on them. Check it out if you haven’t already! – READ OUR SHEBEEN FIRST LOOK!

📌 ODDS & ENDS
📃 Discount Dining. Even though Savor Sarasota is over, there are still a bunch of places that are offering some level of summer dining discounts. Special deals and prix fixe menus are available around town.
Duval’s down on Main Street has their “Taste of Summer” menu. They’ve stayed with the $25 lunch and $45 dinner theme that they’ve carried over from Savor. (🍹Don’t forget to order a Summer Sip to go with your meal). – SEE THE TASTE OF SUMMER MENU HERE!
Taste of Main Street runs through AUG 9TH. You can dine for that same $25 and $45 price tag at ten Lakewood Ranch Main Street restaurants!
🗓️ Save the Date. Yes, I know that October feels a world away right now. But unless you want to be on the outside looking in, you had better start making plans.
The 43rd Pique Nique Sur La Baie takes place on OCT 23rd at the Van Wezel Bayfront. This is a Florida Winefest & Auction event with proceeds going to Caring for Children Charities. This fashion show and Luncheon is the unofficial start to the Sarasota social season – TICKETS AND INFO HERE!
🥗 Fresh Out of the Test Kitchen. The Green Orchid rolls out some new cocktails, salads, and sandwiches for your tasting pleasure. – NEW MENU ITEMS HERE!
They are also featuring Saturday and Sunday brunch! It doesn’t have to be Easter or Mother’s Day to indulge in some Eggs Benedict. I know that I could have that delicious dish at least once a week. I’m not sure how my Cardiologist would feel about that. But… Have a look at the brunch menu just in case you get the urge. – GREEN ORCHID BRUNCH.
