Dine Around Sarasota – Southgate
When we think about Sarasota food destinations, does Southgate come to mind?
Southgate. Yes, it’s a neighborhood. And yes, it’s a shopping area. But is it a dining destination? There’s one thing I think we’ll agree on. There is a lot going on here!
This smallish run of mixed-up shops and restaurants on Siesta Drive is never stagnant. That much is for sure. Over the years, there have been pizza places, a gourmet market, a fantastic Chicago hot dog spot, and yes, even a sushi place. Things change in Southgate. It sometimes feels hard to keep up.
Across Siesta Drive is the “other” part of Southgate; The Mall. Formerly, the Westfield Southgate Mall (I’m always going to call it that. I don’t care what the sign says. Same goes for Paradise Plaza!). It’s now rebranded as The Crossing at Siesta Key. It seems like everybody is trying to grab onto SK’s coattails.
